Juan Mata has warned Manchester United that they can’t afford to have another poor season and must challenge for the Premier League next term.
The Spain international was unable to inspire United to a top-four finish after sealing a club-record £37.1m move to the Red Devils from Chelsea in the January transfer window.
We can be Manchester United again, as the club was in the last few years, winning Premier League titlesJuan Mata
The 20-time English champions are expected to appoint Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal as Ryan Giggs’s successor in the coming week ahead of the World Cup.
And Mata wants the Red Devils to improve their home form next season after suffering a staggering seven defeats at Old Trafford last term.
“I don’t know [why things have gone wrong],” Mata told Rabona magazine.
“We did not get the results we had to especially at Old Trafford. I remember it as one of the most difficult places to play as a visiting team. We need to bring that back. That is very important.
“Away from home, we are getting the results. We have been the best team away from home. That is the key point – to be reliable again at Old Trafford.
“We have to make sure there is no repeat of what has happened this season. We can be Manchester United again, as the club was in the last few years, winning Premier League titles.
